Autumn Grad Sessions

Autumn is a very popular time for grad sessions! It is a little chilly, which may limit some of your outfit option. But if your wanting a cozy vibe and autumn colours then its worth it!

Summer Grad Sessions

Summer is my favourite time for sessions (May - September)! Perfect if you're looking for light airy sessions in warmer weather.

Plus, the campus is less busy!

- Plan your outfit ahead of time: Choose outfits that make you feel confident and comfortable. Consider the location and style of the shoot when selecting your attire. Avoid busy patterns or logos that may distract from your face in the photos.

- Stay hydrated and well-rested: In the days leading up to your session, prioritize self-care by getting plenty of sleep and staying hydrated. This will help you look and feel refreshed on the day of the shoot.

- Leave Enough Time To Get Ready: Avoid leaving your preparations until last minute. Complete as many tasks as possible the evening prior to your session. Leave time on the day itself for getting ready,  applying makeup, styling hair, and getting dressed, as well as factoring in travel time, whether you're walking, driving, or taking the bus to campus.

Outfits

-I do not provide the cap and gown. But it can easy be rented at the campus bookstore or at https://gaspard.ca/

- Choose classic, light, timeless pieces: Opt for clothing that won't look dated in years to come. Classic styles and neutral colours tend to photograph well and won't distract from your face or the overall  photo.

Avoid busy patterns and logos: Busy patterns or large logos can be distracting in photos. Instead, opt for solid colors or subtle patterns that complement your complexion and the location of the shoot.

- Consider the location and season: Take into account the setting and weather conditions when choosing your outfits. Dress appropriately for the season, in the autumn consider bringing layers for comfort and versatility.

- Coordinate with others: If you're taking photos with family or friends, coordinate your outfits to ensure a cohesive look. Choose neutral, consistent colour palette to tie the group together without being too matchy-matchy.

- When you get your cap and gown, ensure your clothes and sash are ironed or steamed and hung the day before to avoid wrinkles. Avoid leaving the sash in its packaging until the day of your session, as fold lines are likely to form.

- Wear light colours: Graduation sashes and robes are typically darker and more intense with colour, so it helps to have a lighter base. Plus when you take your gown off for photos, it will look great with the light and airy photo style!

Girls

- Test your makeup look before hand! Make sure you feel confident in it. If you are going for a more subtle look - keep in mind it will look even more subtle in photos. So, you may need to exaggerate it more than you think!

- If you plan on wearing heels, bring flats/flips flop! We might be doing some walking.

-Keep your bra in mind when picking your outfit, especially if you're wearing light-coloured or form-fitting clothing. Seamless or nude-coloured undergarments can help minimize lines and ensure a smooth silhouette.

-Don't forget about your nails! Having nice nails actually makes a big difference

Boys

- Hair: It's best to schedule your haircut about a week or a few days before your session. This allows time for your hair to settle into a style that you're comfortable with. Stick to a hairstyle that you're familiar with and avoid trying anything new right before the session.

- Facial hair: Remember to trim and groom your facial hair will help enhance your overall appearance in the photos.

Coordinate accessories: Choose accessories that complement your outfit without overpowering it. This could include a classic watch, a tie or bowtie, or a pocket square. Keep it simple and elegant.

Props

Stoles and cords: Bring your graduation stole and any additional stoles or cords you've earned, such as honours cords or club stoles. These accessories highlight your achievements and academic honours.

- Graduation cap with tassel: Bring your graduation cap with the tassel attached. You can incorporate it into your photos for a classic graduation look, or even toss it in the air!

- Champagne: If you're interested in incorporating champagne into your session, consider bringing a bottle to celebrate your achievement. I can provide instructions on how to pop the champagne safely, and for a group session - consider bring one for each grad or every other grad!
